FRO RFP Initiative

Illinois is experiencing a children’s mental health crisis. Families and providers are trying to manage the dual issues of a dramatically increased need for behavioral health services and significant children’s mental health workforce shortages. In response to this crisis, Illinois Children’s Healthcare Foundation (ILCHF) is issuing the “PLANNING GRANT RFP: ENHANCING CHILDREN’S MENTAL HEALTH THROUGH FAMILY-RUN ORGANIZATIONS IN ILLINOIS” grant opportunity.  Through this initiative, ILCHF seeks to award 7 planning grants of up to $150,000 each to support the creation and/or enhancement of Children’s Mental Health Family-Run Organizations dedicated to supporting families who are caring for children, youth, and young adults with social, emotional, substance use or multi-systems challenges – and the agencies that serve them.

ILCHF also seeks to create a learning community among the seven grantees and to provide substantial technical assistance to enable grantees to create and prepare a fully articulated Implementation Plan for the establishment of a Family-Run Organization in anticipation of state funded support.

ILCHF is planning to engage a panel of content experts to work with grantees to support the creation of their FRO Implementation Plans. ILCHF anticipates investing up to $300,000 to support this technical assistance.

This RFP serves to increase access to critical behavioral health services, enhance the children’s mental health workforce shortage through an equity lens, and overall improve the mental health and well-being of Illinois children and families.”
